RARE25 was initiated within the BONSAI consortium—an interdisciplinary collaboration spanning over a decade and uniting numerous academic hospitals. Led by Amsterdam Medical Center and Eindhoven University of Technology, BONSAI is dedicated to advancing the detection of Barrett’s neoplasia using advanced image analysis techniques. RARE25 specifically targets the challenge of detecting early-stage, low-prevalence cancers in Barrett’s esophagus during endoscopic procedures—a critical yet under-addressed need in early cancer detection. The challenge builds on BONSAI’s extensive experience in developing and validating AI-assisted tools in real-world clinical settings, and brings together leading experts in gastroenterology and machine learning.
